"Dada was an art movement formed during the First World War in Zurich in negative reaction to the horrors and folly of the war. The art, poetry and performance produced by dada artists is often satirical and nonsensical in nature. "Futurism was an artistic and social movement that originated in Italy in the early 20th century. It emphasized speed, technology, youth, violence, and objects such as the car, the airplane, and the industrial city." What I enjoy about both the Dada and Futurism movements is the youthful and reactionary element of the work. It's instinctive but not unconsidered - angsty but well thought out. The frequent use of monochromatic tones with the powerful use of red is also something that I very often use in my work. I think I'm drawn to how the use of red as the only colour in a design can provoke a kind of visceral reaction - more so than other colours. I would like to think I incorporate some of the raw, visceral energy of the Dada movement in some of the work i produce, and hope to develop this much more in future projects.
